Janer nasha mukti kendra, and the other options in Moga.

ਮੋਗਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਛੁਡਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ

A lot of people in Moga district search for the Janer centre by name. This page explains what that centre is, what a government centre gives you, and what a family should weigh up before deciding. It is written by Aasra, which is a different centre.

Please read this first. This page is published by Aasra Drug Counselling and Rehabilitation Centre, a private government approved centre at Korewala Road, Daroli Bhai, Moga. We are not the Janer centre and we are not connected to it. The Janer centre is run under the Red Cross. If you were looking for their office, please contact the District Red Cross Society or the Civil Surgeon office, Moga, for their correct number.

What people mean by the Janer centre

Janer is a village in Moga district. When people in this area say Janer nasha mukti kendra, or write it as juner, jner or janjeer, they are almost always talking about the Red Cross run drug de-addiction cum rehabilitation centre associated with Moga district. It is one of the oldest known de-addiction facilities in the district and a lot of local families know it simply by the name of the village.

We are not going to publish its phone number or address on this page. Wrong numbers for that centre are floating around on several listing websites, and two of the biggest ones even show a Gurdaspur pin code against a Moga address. If we cannot verify it, we will not print it. Ask at the district Red Cross office or at the civil hospital and you will get the correct details.

Government centre or private centre

This is the real question behind most of these searches, so here is a straight comparison. Neither column is the right answer for everybody.

CostA government or Red Cross centre is free or close to free. A private centre charges. This is usually the deciding factor and there is no shame in it.
WaitingGovernment beds fill up. There can be a wait. A private centre can normally admit the same day.
Length of stayGovernment detox admissions are often short, sometimes ten to fifteen days. Full rehabilitation needs longer.
PsychiatristGovernment centres draw on the district mental health programme. In a private centre it depends entirely on the centre. Many have no psychiatrist at all.
Number of patients per staff memberGovernment centres carry heavy load. A smaller centre can give more attention, if it is an honest one.

Our honest advice. If money is the problem, go to the government route first. Punjab runs Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment clinics free of cost, and the district hospital handles detox. That help is real and a lot of people have got better through it. Do not let anybody, including us, talk you out of a free option you can actually reach.

When a family needs a residential centre instead

Outpatient treatment works when the person can go home at night and not use. It stops working when the supply is inside the village and he cannot walk past it.

Families usually start looking for a residential centre when one of these is true.

  • He has relapsed after two or three attempts at stopping at home.
  • Money or things from the house are going missing.
  • There are fits, or he cannot sleep at all without the drug.
  • He refuses treatment and the family cannot manage him.
  • There is depression or something more going on than the drug alone.

In those situations the person needs a few months away from the supply, with medical supervision. That is what a residential kendra is for.

What Aasra is

Since you have reached our page, here is what we are, in plain terms.

Aasra is a government approved drug counselling and rehabilitation centre at Korewala Road, Daroli Bhai, in Moga district. Registration number 24/HMH/2017-18. It has been running since 2017 and over a thousand families have come through it.

  • Our own consultant psychiatrist, Dr. Amanullah Ghori, M.B.B.S., DPM, RMC Regn. No. 23346. Not a visiting doctor.
  • 50 beds, rooms with fans, coolers and attached facilities.
  • Staff on duty 24 hours. Admission can be done at any hour of the night.
  • About four months of residential treatment, with daily counselling, yoga, gym and sports.

We charge. We are not going to pretend otherwise on a page about a free centre. What you get for it is a psychiatrist on staff, a bed today rather than in three weeks, and a longer programme. Whether that is worth it is your call, and it depends on how many times you have already tried.

You can look at photographs of the centre, the video testimonials from people who completed the programme, and who works here. Every photograph on this site is of our own centre.

Questions

Straight answers.

Is Aasra the same as the Janer centre?
ਕੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੀ ਜਾਨੇਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਹੈ?No. The Janer centre is run under the Red Cross. Aasra is a separate private centre at Korewala Road, Daroli Bhai, Moga, registration 24/HMH/2017-18. We are not connected to the Janer centre in any way.
Is the government centre free?
ਕੀ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਮੁਫ਼ਤ ਹੈ?Government and Red Cross de-addiction services in Punjab are free or close to free, and the state OOAT clinics give medicine at no cost. Confirm the current position directly with the District Red Cross Society or the civil hospital, Moga.
Why will you not give the Janer centre's phone number?
ਜਾਨੇਰ ਦਾ ਨੰਬਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ?Because we cannot verify it. Several listing websites carry wrong details for that centre, and two of the largest even show a Gurdaspur pin code against a Moga address. We would rather send you to the district Red Cross office than print a number that may be wrong.
Which one should we choose?
ਕਿਹੜਾ ਚੁਣੀਏ?If cost is the main problem, go to the government route first. It is real help and many people have recovered through it. Consider a private residential centre when there have already been repeated relapses, when the person cannot stay away from the supply at home, or when there is a mental health problem along with the addiction.
What does Aasra have that a government centre may not?
ਆਸਰਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਕੀ ਹੈ?A consultant psychiatrist on our own staff rather than a visiting doctor, a bed on the same day instead of a waiting list, and a programme of about four months instead of a short detox admission.
