General information, not a diagnosis.
Everything on this website is written to help a family understand what they are dealing with. None of it replaces an examination by a doctor.
This website does not treat anybody
The pages here describe addiction, withdrawal and how our programme works, in general terms. Nobody can be assessed over a web page. Two people using the same drug for the same number of years can need completely different treatment, and only an examination will show that.
Please do not use anything on this site to decide a dose, to start or stop a medicine, or to delay seeing a doctor.
In an emergency, such as a seizure, unconsciousness, a suspected overdose, severe withdrawal or talk of suicide, go to the nearest hospital casualty or call 108 straight away. Do not wait to telephone us first.
Withdrawal can be dangerous
Stopping suddenly at home is not always safe. Withdrawal from alcohol and from some sleeping and anxiety medicines can cause fits and can be life threatening. This is one of the main reasons detox is done under supervision. Speak to a doctor before anybody stops abruptly.
No promise of a cure
Addiction is a relapsing illness. We do not promise that any patient will never use again, and you should be careful of any centre that does. Some people recover on the first attempt and some need more than one. The stories on this website are the experience of those particular people and are not a prediction for anybody else.
About the other centres mentioned
Some pages on this site mention government facilities, Red Cross centres, Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment clinics and district hospitals. We mention them because a family deserves to know its options. We are not connected to them, we do not speak for them, and their timings, costs and services can change. Confirm anything about them directly with that office.
