Aasra is a government approved de-addiction and rehabilitation centre in Moga. Below is what we treat and what treatment for each one actually involves, written plainly and checked by our own psychiatrist.
What the programme is
Whatever the substance, the shape of treatment here is the same and it runs for about four months.
- Medical detox, one to two weeks, supervised, with medication so that withdrawal is controlled rather than endured. Staff are awake at night.
- Psychiatric assessment by our own consultant, Dr. Amanullah Ghori, who is on our staff and not a doctor who visits once a month.
- Counselling every day, individual and group, plus family counselling.
- A fixed daily routine, from a 5:30 wake-up call to lights off at ten, with yoga, gym and sport. You can see the full timetable.
- Relapse prevention before discharge, and clear guidance to the family on what to watch for.
Why four months and not two weeks
A short admission clears the drug out of the body. That is detox, and it is only the first step. It does nothing about the depression underneath, the friends he sits with every evening, or the habit of reaching for something when life gets difficult.
Families tell us all the time that he was fine for three weeks after a short admission somewhere and then it started again. That is not the person failing. That is what happens when only the first step is done. Read more on our detox page.
The part most kendras cannot do
Addiction rarely comes alone. Depression, anxiety, sleeplessness and in some cases psychosis sit alongside it, either causing it or caused by it. Treating one and ignoring the other does not hold.

What we do not promise
We do not promise a cure, and you should be careful of any centre that does. Addiction is a relapsing illness and some people need more than one attempt. What we can tell you is that some of the men in our video testimonials have been clean for ten years and more.
We also do not publish fees on this website. It depends on the room and the length of stay, so we would rather tell you honestly on the phone.
